I found this groomer via a Groupon deal a while ago. Despite the fact that I live near uptown Charlotte and have many closer options, I continue to drive out here. While I have tried some other local groomers and they have been good, they can't compare to Modern. My dog always looks amazing- unbelievably soft. Their prices are some of the best you'll find, too. They're very accommodating and customer service oriented. The groomers and staff are lovely. My dog is extremely anxious and hates being anywhere without me (I adopted him when he was older). He is comfortable here around these groomers and they really go the extra mile to make sure he is comfortable. Even in the time he is waiting for me post-groom, they have a nice, relaxing environment as opposed to the stacks of crates at some larger groomers. So, I will gladly continue to make the 30 minute drive out to Weddington because, quite simply, they are worth it - best value for the price you pay. read less

They know how to style small and large dogs and listen to the customers requests. They are on the higher side on fees but the quality is worth it. I take my golden retriever here who has severe skin allergies that needs a very tight groom once a month. Other places have made her look as if a kindergarten kid cut her hair with kiddie scissors and she ended up looking like a poodle on other occasions. Not here. They cut it tight with clippers and blend in extremely well. read less

I get the deluxe with the furminator and my dog, Oso, smells and looks so handsome when I pick him up! They bathe him, clean his ears, trim his nails, trim his excess paw hair, and the furminating is amazing for taking that excess fluff off of him. I truly enjoyed her work and the knowledge of her not being with the company anymore sent me on a goose chase of trying to locate her. So glad I found her online. She was wonderful at Modern and always did such a great job. She was very professional when greeting us in the morning and always took the time to ensure we were comfortable before we left our dog in her care. She is a top notch stylist. After a long road trip my baby needed grooming badly, and they fit me in same-day. I was especially surprised that they were able to take her when I got there, as at least 5 other dogs were dropped off in the 5 minutes I was there! They must have a very loyal clientele. I was impressed by how clean it is here, and was hit by a pleasant shampoo smell as soon as I walked in. The woman at the desk discussed with me the style I wanted and even called before she started cutting to be sure I got what I wanted!! Now that's great customer service. read less

My stylist greeted me, everyone loved on my fur baby, and stylist kept me up to date on the progress by phone. Entire staff was friendly, energetic, and my pup was happy and not jumping to get out the door when we left. At this point Weddington is no longer convenient but I continue to do a two hour drive (30 minutes each way from Myers Park, trip to drop her off and pick her up) because I'm confident they treat my dog well and she'll come home clean and happy.

I've popped in and checked out a few more local groomers given there's so many in my area and immediately walked out seeing the way they treat the dogs or talk to staff or customers. After 3 years with modern pet I've never heard them speak ill to or about a customer or dog. I've watched then take the time to let new puppies "adjust" to going back into the grooming room without their dog parents.

Perhaps the best compliment is the gentleman that came inside a coffee shop to track me down and ask where my dog was groomed while I was on vacation in western NC. He couldn't find a groomer he was happy with and hoped for a new groomer when he saw a new poodle in town. Unfortunately he didn't want to drive to Charlotte.

Tips: book ahead if you want a specific groomer or a weekend appointment. Plan for a few hours if you have large breed. My standard takes 3-4 hours for a full groom. Drop offs can be a bit hectic at the first morning appointments because everyone arrives at the same time. Be patient and keep your dog entertained but most of the pet parents are very understanding that a little doggie play is likely to break out in the lobby.

I have a golden doodle and due to the move and getting acclimated to the area and school, it's been awhile since Zoey has been groomed. I was told she would have to be cut low due to matting around her neck and her feet. She's had short cuts before & ive always hated how she looked afterwards.

I was a little apprehensive about her being cut so low, but knew that's what had to be done. She was SO CUTE! They did an AMAZING job and she didn't look ugly LOL. I'll definitely be returning. read less
