From Passion to Charlotte's Favorite Pet Service Provider
Modern Pet Salon began as a true labor of love in 2011, when Danyelle Stephen turned a lifelong passion for pet care into a community cornerstone in Weddington. Over the past decade-plus, their boutique salon has grown from a modest storefront into South Charlotte’s #1 luxury pet grooming destination, all while staying true to their founding promise of “professional grooming with a personal touch.”
Founding & Vision
Danyelle Stephen discovered her calling at age sixteen, learning to groom neighborhood pets before studying business at UNCC‑Charlotte. During the economic downturn, she pooled her savings to launch a high‑end salon dedicated to both animal welfare and customer experience. Their first location opened in October 2011 inside Weddington Corners Shopping Center, marking the debut of Matthews’ first full‑service pet grooming salon. In January 2012, Modern Pet Salon was officially recognized by the Better Business Bureau as a local business, cementing its roots in the Weddington community
Community Impact & Growth
From that single 600‑square‑foot space, Modern Pet Salon has expanded into a team of over 25 employees—12 of whom are seasoned groomers with at least five years of breed‑specific experience—serving pets and their owners across Weddington, Waxhaw, Marvin, and Indian Trail. Along the way, MPS has earned widespread acclaim: six consecutive Angie’s List “Super Service” awards (2012–2017), back‑to‑back Expertise “Best Dog Groomers in Charlotte” honors (2016 & 2018), and a coveted spot at #7 in Best Things North Carolina’s “10 Best Pet Groomers in North Carolina” list. These accolades reflect Danyelle’s unwavering commitment to a salon atmosphere that prioritizes safety, cleanliness, and genuine care for every pet.

Located at 13643 Providence Road, Modern Pet Salon remains a privately owned, family‑run business focused exclusively on dog and cat grooming. What started with a dream now stands as Weddington’s premier pet salon, where every haircut, bath, and spa treatment is infused with the Danyelle’s original vision of exceptional service and personal warmth.
